Bautista's past boxing bouts
Barrera loses to Bautista
BARRERA trained well according to him. He went to the extent of having sparred with Daniel Ponce de Leon obviously to hone and improve his boxing skill. He gathered facts and information about Boom-Boom and was able to pinpoint his weakest parts as well as his "glass chin" which according to him was Boom-Boom's waterloo.
So when Barrera and his team set foot on Cebu, they were all set to grab back the honor and prestige denied them last Aug. 28 where in the same arena Barrera lost by a controversial TKO decision. Barrera did show his boxing prowess in the first 2 rounds when he engaged Boom-Boom in a give-and-take exchanges of hot and crisp blows. Barrera always has in mind his target- Boom-Boom's chin but it proved elusive.
As luck would have it, while punches were flying here and there, both boxers were stunned when suddenly one of them buckled down toward the canvas. During the slo-mo, it was clear Boom-Boom vicious left hook had penetrated Barrera's right abdomen. Barrera writhed in pain and shoved the canvas with a glove to show his disgust.
Boom-Boom didn't let go of the opportunity. As a trained fighter, he mustered all the power left in him for the kill. But boxing laws prevail. Referee Bruce McTavish stepped in time to prevent Barrera from further harm.
Barrera was a good sport after all. He managed a smile and had a warm hug with Boom-Boom who was adjudged winner by knockout victory.which came at 2 minutes and 56 seconds of the 3rd round.
